Mes nuits sont plus belles que vos jours

Oh, to write like a Herald Tribune editor. My obsession with the Tribune dates back from the days my father and I deciphered it over breakfast - I underlined words and translated them into a little notebook. My eagerness to learn only equalled his patience with my pitiful attempts to read as fast as I could. I read and he explained, then I ordained and he read. Somehow the NYT never quite had that effect on me, with its bulky prints and masculine feel. Still every morning, as I catch a glimpse of the bold gothic letterhead, I think of my daddy. Note to self: buy the New York Times Guide to Style seen in Mike Oreskes' office, and finally read all those Thomas Friedman books on my shelves.
